At the NRA show I will also be displaying the boxes that Ruger has used through the years for their DA revolvers.
Here is what I have on hand and the dates used that I think are close. However, I want to make sure the dates are correct. If you see any discrepancy, let me know so I can fix it.
White box w/cutout for the revolver 1970 to 1974
Red/White box 1974 to 1975
Red/Black box 1975 to 1979
Yellow/Black box 1979 to 1995
Gray (plastic) box 1995-1996 1st Variation
did not have feet and both ends were of pebbled texture
and had a cardboard shipper with the end label.
Gray (plastic) box 1996 to present 2nd variation had feet for stacking
and one end was smooth for the label, eliminating the separate shipper
Black (plastic) box 2005 to present
White (cardboard) box 2009 to present (used to ship LCRs/LCRXs)
Black (Flambeau plastic) w/red closers and logo 2018 to present
Thanks for the assistance, I want to make sure my display lives up to the RCA and ROCS standards and makes Ruger collectors proud.

Re: Need some help about boxes
Added one box that I forgot - the white cardboard box that LCRs/LCRXs were shipped.
If my dates are incorrect, please let me know. Thanks

Re: Need some help about boxes
Ron,
As a side note on the Gray plastic case's, the 1st variation did not have feet and both ends were of pebbled texture and had a cardboard shipper with the end label. The 2nd variation had feet for stacking and one end was smooth for the label, eliminating the need for a shipper. IIRCC the change in cases was rather quick.

Terry,
Thanks for that info. I'll put a note about the 1st and 2nd variations in my descriptions. Now I'll have to go look at the ones I have

Re: Need some help about boxes
When doing the descriptions you might call the 2018 to date plastic case a "Flambeau" case.
I was thinking at least some Liberty marked guns had the red hinged box, but might be wrong on that.

Thanks for that info Chad, the better the description the more info can be gained by the viewers of the display.

Re: Need some help about boxes
Here's an interesting use of a box that is nearly 100 percent of the time found with Sec. Series revolvers only. Recently came across an auction with this SA though, which goes to prove... whatever Ruger has on hand, it doesn't matter what a certain type of box is normally "used" for, when the need arises they can use whatever boxes for whatever guns.... its all just cardboard. The only other time I've seen this type of box used was for the limited edition 50th Anniversary Cabela's Single-Six, which was produced long after Ruger stopped using this red and black hinged box.
